a standing ovation... i insist.

missed me? of course you did! anyway i am keeping up with my new year resolution to study, so do forgive if i go MIA once in a while. and the reason for this entry is to honour my favourite- est music composer.

A Golden Globe provides the icing on Bollywood musician A.R. Rahman’s already illustrious career.

A.R. Rahman, who won a Golden Globe award on Sunday for best musical score with Slumdog Millionaire, is one of India’s most famous Bollywood composers and has sold nearly as many albums as Madonna.

His scores for a host of Indian language movies have fused global influences from hip-hop and rap to Broadway musicals and Indian folk music in a way that critics believe could help Bollywood music become more global.

Rahman, 43, wrote the music for the rags-to-riches romance of a Mumbai slum boy. The film also bagged three more Golden Globe honours for best drama, best director and best screenwriter.

It is the first time an Indian has won a Golden Globe for composing in a country whose rich classical traditions have inspired oeuvres of global music. Yet, Indian film music is mostly popular only with lovers of Bollywood.

“This means so much for Indian music,” said Gulzar, acclaimed filmmaker and Bollywood lyricist, who wrote one of the Slumdog songs.

“Not just classical (Indian) music, for which you can credit Pandit Ravi Shankar and all the other musicians, but when it comes to cinema and its music, Rahman has really brought it to the global stage.”

A.R. Rahman accepting the award for Best Original Score – Motion Picture for Slumdog Millionaire during the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday. It is the first time an Indian has won a Golden Globe award and Rahman has been credited with bringing Indian cinematic scores to the global stage.

Known as the “Mozart of Madras”, the hometown of Rahman in southern India, the reticent composer was born A.S. Dileep Kumar, a Hindu, before his family converted to Sufi Islam and gave him the name Allah Rakha Rahman.

He studied music at Oxford and wrote advertisement jingles before getting a break in 1992 for the film Roja. The film paved the way for a career that has seen him sell around 200 million albums.

While his tunes for Hindi films such as Bombay, Dil Se, Taal and Guru and other Indian films redefined contemporary Indian music, global acclaim came with his score for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Bombay Dreams and the theatre production for The Lord of the Rings.

“His confluence of Indian and Western sounds is sure to go global now,” said Vishal Dadlani, a Bollywood composer and a contemporary of Rahman’s.

“The world had to wake up to the talent that this man has. It was inevitable.”

While Bollywood films are seen globally as splashy but naive, their music hardly has managed to overcome the language barrier for a foreign listener.

But in Rahman, Bollywood experts say, anyone with half an ear would not miss the vibrant, varied melody that is universal.

“To have what are essentially Indian songs and sounds in an English film speaks volumes of the confluence in Rahman’s music,” saidVishal.

“When you see it in the film, it dawns that the music is neither Indian nor Western, and that I think is the key to making it global. He has managed to merge the two without losing out on the magic.”

Bollywood experts hailed Rahman’s Golden Globe as a watershed in Indian music history.

“There are crossover films, and awards and mentions abroad, but to win a Golden Globe is a true global honour,” said Shankar Mahadevan, another top composer and singer. “The music industry in India has not even realised how huge this honour is.”

my reads

say bye bye to

these

and say hello to

these

yes its my collection of story books that awaits patiently to be read. lets meet them one by one shall we?

1. Anne Frank. The Diary of a Young Girl.

I think this book speaks for itself. i am currently reading this, and the maturity and depth and knowledge shown by this young girl is astonishing.

2. A Far Country by Daniel Mason.

A novel about a young girl's journey through a vast, unnamed country in search of her brother. it had a really good review and a good price tag too.

3. Remember Me by Sophie Kinsella.

As you all know i am a great fan of sophie kinsella. i just love her books. it always has a really nice ending. can't wait to start reading this. YAY! this is a tale about how one girl's memory loss leads to a perfect life. or does it?

4. The Grey King by Susan Cooper.

forget c.s.lewis, get your hands on this dark is rising sequence. 5 book in total. this is the 4th and yes i have the other three also. one of the plus point is the books are not thick. less than 200 pages if i am not mistaken. but its so havocly entertaining.

5. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

This novel is narrated by Death. it's a small story about:
~ a girl
~ an accordionist
~ some fanatical germans
~ a jewish fist fight
~ and quite a lot of thievery.
this is what the book is described to be, but this is no small story. it is 553 pages long o.O gonna read this last.

all is well, except for that bulging package at the foot of my table that yearns for my attention and is also responsible for my guilty conscience. this is it:

notes for next sem, given by my senior with a note to read the pns(peripheral nervous system) cuz its a killer. which naturally i haven't done. must get my lazy ass to go thru it sometime.

hungry now. later..

p/s: i got tagged...yay! unlike others i like tags. it gives me reason to utter complete absurd details about me. thanks to pk. come back quickly la, i so starving for the shoulder. you belanja right?:P

not a single title fits all i have to say

my dear readers allow me to rant as much as i want since I've been missing for a good 5 days now. missed me? the reason for my sudden disappearance is so livid i cant get my head around it. you see 1st my lappie's Lan port decided to take a holiday without applying for an mc beforehand. so blinking yellow lights could not be seen when i plug it in. so i turned to my ever trusty computer. but alas it also decided to follow in my lappie's footstep. WTH! the whole system had to be rebooted. and it is not really a wallet friendly action. this rebooting thing took place on Friday. it was working fine on sat but i had to off it cuz it started raining with thunder and lightning and all. and on mon i plugged in the power supply to my cpu and turned it on and i found myself in utter darkness and my mom going "what did you do?" off the cpu went to be treated. and i was left all alone with no internet connecting device. aiyoh!! now can you say that i am wrong when i start thinking that bl@@DY Murphy created that law to indicate my encounters with electronic devices in my life?! got back both my cpu and lappie today. both working well. touchwood.
************************************
i woke up late today. round 9.30 only. which is late in my household. the reason? i had a really really really nice dream. one which i just did not want to wake up from. gah..i am smiling just thinking about it. i don't normally get this sort of dream, so its really very much surprising. but its so damn nice la. how a? not gonna share my dream with you. but its definitely a dream that i look forward to. to be realised.
************************************
i don't know if i should talk about it or not. because there are people reading this that might misinterpret it. because i saw this certain somebody yesterday. but it is not this him, but that him. everybody in class only saw this him and not that him. so i am talking about that him who is also my 1st ever crush. and just to avoid confusion; that him is older than me.
************************************
talking about class, i am happy that my shoulder injury is not giving me much problem now. its really such a relieve, cuz i thought i would not be playing anymore cuz the injury was quite bad. i couldn carry my hand properly for like a month, couldn't drive or carry anything heavy without aggravating the injury. but its alot better now. there is still a light pain whenever i smash or defend but that i can live with. but without playing, hell no, i can't live without that.
************************************
my dad just came and after seeing me typing this entry so attentively asked me if i am doing assignment. -_- assignment during my break? sorry dad, but you've gotta try harder for me to tell you that i am spilling my beans on my blog.
************************************
cant think of anything else to rant about le.
************************************
p/s: the writer is still very much angry with her hair cut. oh, the wretched lady. she should be skinned, burned, shot, drowned, hanged, buried, starved to her death for all the misery she has caused the writer.

snip snip

the scissors went.
swish swish my hair fell..

i hate my new haircut!!!!argh!!!!
its way too short. i said to cut near my bra line, but its way above.
WTF!!!!

it seems results is out...
i think im suffering from cardiac arrest. sweaty palms, shivering hands, palpitating pulse, quickened heart beat... the signs are all there. but the question is should i check now or not?

decisions....sigh.

time waits for no man

just finished watching the girl who leapt through time. really sweet albeit a little confusing in the beginning but it ends really well..the type that makes you go awwwhhh..co cweet.

*******************************************
on a different note i just stuffed myself with 5 round balls of nothing but flour, sugar and oil. because nobody ate it, and it will spoil by tomorrow, and it is also not good to waste food...fine fine it was because i was tempted by the balls nonetheless. the evil calorific food brings.

*******************************************
on a different, different note, i am gonna cut my head i mean my hair tomorrow. wait for the result.

Ta for now

of rats, surprises and elusiveness.

hot baths on rainy days are the ultimate best.ahhhh....
when you have exam at 9 the next morning what should you be doing at 4.30? chasing rats. no joke. the parasitic intruder has been crashing in my house since wed if im not mistaken, and attempts to lure him with dried fish set on a trap was to no avail. bl***# Rattus norvegicus!
but like the saying goes "sepandai pandai tikus menyelongkar, akhirnya mati di tangan manusia jugak". roughly about 4.30, my mom was woken by some noise. yes i didn't hear a thing, and yes i was sleeping like a dead log. so back to the rat, hearing the noise, my dad armed with a broom and my mom with her sharp eyes started stalking the rats' every move and...... WHACK! TWHACK! and voila i was awake, the rat scurried away unharmed to another safe and dark spot. after many stalking and many more screams of "there, there under the chair" finally, it was shoo-ed out of the house. sad,it didn't get beaten. slick rat.

exams are finally over!god bless. i feel like the 10kg weight i've been carrying around was allowed to be taken off my shoulders. so relieved. and to celebrate the i month freedom my frens and i complotted on something.we told one of my fren that we are going to sunway lagoon after the exam. but actually we just plan to push her in the swimming pool of the condo my frens are staying. her birthday is on the 15 of Dec, so it was like a surprise celebration. but my god, 9 of us couldn't push she alone into the pool. she was holding on to her bag, as if we are gonna throw her into a pit full of T-rex. @$#%@%$#! all of us were breathing heavily after that. then we played charade. 5 vs 5. my team lost:( our punishment was to dance. then crashed at my frens place a while. really enjoyed myself to. show you some pic of a few of my frens. not me though.

L-R selene, sharon, meera. (the gal who get dunk in was sharon, she is older than the rest of us,22,but kena bully :) the other two's birthday just passed so we celebrate together, cut cost ma)

i shoot this with the panorama mode in my phone. sony ericson cybershot rawcks!but the centre pic i take wrongly, haih amateur..

im going for a movie tonight. show at 9.30. remember the tamil movie i said, im going for that. woohoo..but getting the ticket was more difficult then seeing the Queen itself. it took 3 rides to the cinema! one on wed night, just to be told that only can buy one day in advance. stupid lotus cinema. so when on Thurs round 12, and she had the cheek to say 'can only buy at 5' stupid-nya, tell la earlier. so when again at 5.

WTF!

the elusive ticket. wasn't even gold plated, i checked.

p/s: WTF is actually 'what the fish', and not 'what the fcuk' like you thought. this word(yes it is a word) will appear occasionally. so please fool yourself into believing that it is what the F.I.S.H

ciao.

protectiveness ultimatum

the title says it all right? my parents are protective!no no scrape that, they are over protective. but the victim in question here is not me,but my bro..i duno if he feels it that way o not, but im feeling his pain. as in if im in his situation i would feel my parents grip around my neck eventhough they are thousands of miles apart.
i dun mean they shouldn care but i believe letting lose is no harm. he is old enough isn't he? (he is 24) he should be able to take care of his self. if you feel that im like every other teen who believes her parents are control freaks, think again. and read the situation and think again.
he called on sat to update. and by mon my mom was already asking me has he sms-ed yet. note:1 day(only) in between. by tues she was hyperventilating, and by wed i was already calling him at 12 p.m our time, roughly 6 am his time.he was clearly bewildered. who wouldn be?
i love my parents. i really do. but if only they'll see that we have actually grown up.

p/s: hope he doesn kill me when he reads this.

after check up went to popular, i need to get DVD to backup my windows. but much to my disappointment no DVD. but on old man, a customer called out to me to help find something..only when i gave him a bewildered look did he reason out. he even had the cheek to ask me "you not working here a?

wth makes him think i work there? im not wearing a black shirt with red collar written popular.(i was wearing black shirt with grey collar. g.r.e.y!!!) its not the 1st time people have thought that im a salegirl in a shop. hopefully this will be my last..damn mood out already wei. dunno why, it seems so petty, but stil...haih..

then me walking back to the car in a sombre mood. my dad met his customer, she was telling something's wrong with her car and so forth.. and before leaving she looked at me and said "sweet daughter" to my dad..

i can't help smiling...haih..

1 week

7 days

168 hours

10080 minutes

604800 seconds

who cares how many miliseconds?!

there are many ways to spend a week, and if you're me you would spend it by:

1.go shop for diwali.
diwali is just another reason to go and get all the wonderful clothes out there. went to sentral, they were having diwali bazzar. god, i tel you, i rambang mata. everything looks so gorseous. i am so longing for a white punjabi suit. had 1 nice 1, but mom said get the light turqoise suit, and i obliged. being filial has its drawbacks.

2.become a cook.
no seriously, i did. well i made burgers. not where you go to the nearest supermarket, grab a ramly frozen chickens, throw in some sauces and you're done type k. this is homemade burger i'm talking about. it was pretty tasking. let me show pics, then you decide for yourself:

chicken fillet

minced chicken fillet.

end product. the deco nice o?

for a 1st timer its pretty good i feel.

3.yearn for my computer
its still not back. i emo-ing. makes me realise how much im actually adiicted to the sight of it.

4.contemplate
whether to connect back my astro star world connection.(without my moms knowledge of cuz) mom asked it to be cancelled of since it costs so much. actually it doesn't. the package with the star world costs rm59.95, without is 54.95. only rm5 extra. the 1 tats actually expensive is the maharaja package. *sulk*

5.get irritated
when the electricity went off at a very crucial point of the movie i was watching and came back only after the movie ended.

6.deny a proposal.
2 of my uni mates got together to bully me, 1st they sent me a msg saying "our marriage is scheduled on the 27th of nov. bring along yourself. i sent back," well, i don't mind marrying you, but just have to ask my other wives(it was a girl who smsed me), you don't mind polygamy rit? lol. she withdrew her proposal. guess she doesn't support polygamy, but interestingly she smsed me, so shoulsd i assume she supports homosexuality.worth pondering on...

7.splurge,splurge,splurge
no matter what you do GO TO THE MPH SALE!!!! its every book lovers heaven. once you enter, they give you a box to put the books you want. the box des get in the way, but you cant actually go around carrying around 10 books can you? yes i did buy 10 books. not all 4 me thou. i only got myself 5 books. this 5 books:

all this for just 56. i love a good bargain. and i have the complete sophie kinsella collection now. the only one missing was remember me? but i wanna go again, i want to buy 'the shack', the appeal' some jodi picoult books and whateva else is good.

p/s: i love the book i got for my sis, its a general knowledge book, really general, you have answers to questions like how are electricity made, where do garbage go, how do birds fly and how are babies made o.O interesting.

15? old crush?

today during the game one of the fella playing there asked me if I'm 15 years old. hello!! knock knock. do i actually look like a 15 year old? i seriously thought i was more mature looking than that. and to make it worse he had the courtesy to say that i'm short also. i'm not that short also k.

and the old crush is well just someone i liked when i was actually 15. the type that makes my heart skip a beat or two whenever i see him. but luckily not anymore, now im just pleased to see him, not that i get to see him often as he works abroad. so i'm just gonna keep my emotions (and hormones) under control. there's no point is there?

a song i love from mamma mia.
a dedication..

I don't wanna talk
About the things we've gone through
Though it's hurting me
Now it's history
I've played all my cards
And that's what you've done too
Nothing more to say
No more ace to play

The winner takes it all
The loser standing small
Beside the victory
That's her destiny

I was in your arms
Thinking I belonged there
I figured it made sense
Building me a fence
Building me a home
Thinking I'd be strong there
But I was a fool
Playing by the rules

The gods may throw the dice
Their minds as cold as ice
And someone way down here
Loses someone dear
The winner takes it all
The loser has to fall
It's simple and it's plain
Why should I complain

But tell me does she kiss
Like I used to kiss you?
Does it feel the same
When she calls your name?
Somewhere deep inside
You must know I miss you
But what can I say
Rules must be obeyed

The judges will decide
The likes of me abide
Spectators of the show
Always staying low
The game is on again
A lover or a friend
A big thing or a small
The winner takes it all

I don't wanna talk
If it makes you feel sad
And I understand
You come to shake my hand
I apologize
If it makes you feel bad
Seeing me so tense
No self-confidence
But you see
The winner takes it all
The winner takes it all...

resigned..

today was my last day at work..did not really turn out how i expected..rily sad..cant believe how people can actually change in a blink of an eye..sigh..whoever said money is the root of al evil is so very correct..

i had rily good impression on my supervisor, he is, nope was a good man..he wasn't bossy or ridiculously undemanding..but today i saw a different side of him..when i told him a few weeks back that i'll be leavin at the end of this month,he said that he'll treat me on saturday..so saturday came and nothing happened..cuz he asked me on saturday wheter im workin on monday, and i said i was..so i assumed that the treat wil be on monday..

so monday came, and guess wat..he din talk to me the whole day..so saddening k..this from a man who wud jus sit and crack jokes wit me..sigh..ppl.. but actually i din rily mind him not treating me..no rily..but the worse part is the ignoring part..

and then there was a money that was supposed to be shared among workers, and i was waiting to take that before i leave..and he went MISSING..no surprise there i suppose..

well the malice of man knows no boundary, and i experienced it personally today..

what a day?!

you know your day is gonna be hectic when u wake up to your dad askin 'girl, wats the biggest flower in the world?'
its 7 in the morning, and apparently my oh so dear sis haven done her homework, and now big sis has to come for rescue...there goes my beauty sleep i thought:P
father: wats the biggest flower in the world?
me: 2% brain loading
father: girl?
me: 6% brain loading...
father: too angry tat he is speechless
me: rafflesia..(thank god humans only use 10% or less of their brain capacity)
father: wake up and help your sis do the rest..
me: no way..i want to sleep (said tat in d heart of course)

so tats how my wonderful monday started..spend the next 1/2 hour answerin questions like
what is a table tat can be eaten..
what has a trunk but not an elephant..

sigh..lets see how the rest of my week turns out to be..
