I read, therefore i am II

from previous post

That's basically how the rest of the novel goes. On the other hand, The Broker is supposedly a thriller. I say supposedly because it falls way short. I have never read Mr Grisham's books before, but i have come to know that he writes mostly law thrillers. Main reason: he practiced law himself. I am a big fan of thrillers. I practically grew up with Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew and Enid Blyton's Famous Five series and upgraded to James Patterson novels. he writes a mean thriller by the way. So i had pretty high expectations on The Broker; it had been the New York bestseller for some time. But to my dismay. The story is about a Broker(lawyer) who used to be all strong and mighty in his heydays but pleads to go into prison after some nasty people finds out about a secret computer program that can control and monitor all other computers and intelligences. And then, the CIA pardons him, gives him a new name and secret life in Italy nevertheless and then they would leak his whereabout to the people who knew the existence of the program, like the israelis, pakistanis, chinese (although he refers to them as Red china, communism perhaps) and arabs.
Sounds like a good enough story, but don't be fooled by this, because this story is all words and no action. There is only descriptions of how good a hitman or killers are, but they don't actually get near the hero at all. The only time they have him surrounded by snipers ready to fire, but they get a last minute message to withdraw. And the other time another secret agent pursues him on foot when he tries to run from Italy, and he escapes him by, wait for it.... by changing to a different bus at the last possible moment. And i went dammit I want some drama. Some chasing, firing, dodging or actually confronting a killer. Anything at al!! But nope, all the hero has to do to lose his chasers is to change clothes. *slaps forehead. I think I would stick with Mr. Patterson, thank you very much.

To kill a mockingbird,
Her fearful symmetry.
Waiting to be read
